Confessions…

by peggie on May.12, 2009, under What's happening!

OK…I must confess.  I am a Facebook junkie.  I was warned this could happen.  I refused to heed the warning.  When I get up in the morning, I preferably check on my laptop for any new friend requests or postings I might wish to comment on.  If I have left the laptop in my bedroom the night before (bummer!), I start the PC up.  I can’t help it…..I need my fix. I’m still reading the same book I started last fall.  That’s bad.  Don’t know when this will stop.  Don’t know if I care.  I feel helpless and hopeless.  But I’ve gotten in touch with people I haven’t talked to in years.  Is that so bad?

Had a wonderful Mother’s Day!  My boys got me a Wi Fit.  It is cool.  I love the Yoga!  I intend to use it alot this hot summer and in the cold of winter.  Right now I’m busy with the usual yard work and planting.  I am cutting down on all that planting business.  I try and remember how I hate watering everything when it’s hot and humid.  Then,  in what seems a matter of weeks, I’m dumping out all those pots for the fall.  I did put in some new perennials.  I’m excited to see how they do.

I celebrated my first year at Northview April 21st.   I only have 11 more days of work.  Can’t believe the school year will be over.  It will be fun next year cuz my nephew will be going there.  Two years of that, then the new high  school will be open.  I’m not sure about the new middle school.  There will be alot of changes coming.  I like working at the upper levels.  It’s harder work, but the time goes fast.

So I guess my life is not a total waste as I reflect.  But damn!  I wish I could finish my book.  But for now I’ll close.  Gotta check my wall….Peace:)

Daylight Savings Time…UGH!

by peggie on Mar.07, 2009, under What's happening!

How I hate daylight savings time…I feel like I never get over it…still waking up at 4:00 a.m. in January!  I’ve already noticed increased noise pollution with just the few warm days we’ve had.  But to really ruin it for me, now it starts a month earlier and lasts a week later…Back in the good ole days daylight savings time ended on my birthday weekend.  Now we have to wait for the first weekend of the next month to get that extra hour back.  And I just can’t help but feel “it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature!”  I think the one and only good thing about all this is it reminds people to check their batteries in the smoke detectors, period.  But I could just jot that on my calendar….

Am still enjoying facebook!  Posted a new picture of myself…Love it!!!  And now that I’ve really simplified my life (?) I now have texting on my phone… Only thing is husband and sons are the only ones with it too that I know.  But they provide me with good practice.  I don’t know….some people are questioning my sanity, I think…but that’s nothing new!  I’m having fun!  Peace:)

OMG!!

by peggie on Feb.23, 2009, under What's happening!

Just when I felt I was making my life simpler, my sister peeked my interest in opening a Facebook account.  Little did I realize how horribly addictive it is.  I’m checking it all the time, changing my profile, inviting friends etc.  It’s madness…. but I love it!  The only problem is all my “friends” are sooooo young!  I feel like an ole geezer with my high school diploma in 1970!  They’ve all got college degrees and exciting  jobs.  They are all just beginning their lives and I’ve been around the block so many times I’m dizzy.  But they are so sweet and let the ole gal play along.   Who knows…..maybe sometime they’ll need some of my experience for whatever and I’ll be there!!  Ready to write on their walls!  Peace:)

January 31st

by peggie on Jan.31, 2009, under What's happening!

Last day of January!  Hate to wish time away, but am not sorry to see this snowy, frigid month become history.  But there were some really memorable occassions too!  I used a personal day at work to witness the swearing in of our 44th president.  I haven’t missed an inaugural day since 1977  and this was most definitely one I didn’t want to miss!  I got a call last week from my boss and was asked to go in and do all the cooking for the main line at school.  Never have done that before, but everything worked out just fine!  I went to work yesterday for the first time without all the anxiety I usually have.  It was good for my self esteem.  So outside of the nasty weather,  January has been a pretty good month.

My ”keep it simple stupid”  resolution has been going along just fine.  Husband did some simple home  improvement projects for me that cost very little money, but brought me a great deal of satisfaction.  The “American Gothic”  is at the DesMoines Art Center til the end of March and with free admission it will be a must see, although, I would be happy pay to see it!  I’ve been putting money aside so I’ll have a cushion this summer when there are no paychecks coming in.  So far so good….

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday!  Thank goodness it will be a nice  manageable evening instead of the circus we used to have.  I’m making shrimp cocktail, meatballs, artichoke dip, cheeses and barbecue pork ribs and augratin potatoes for the main meal with brownies for desserrt.  I’m hoping the Cardinals win.  I’d like to see our local boy win one more time.  Thank goodness February is a short month too.  We have lots of days off this month with 2 early dismissals and 2 no school days for conferences.   Then in March it’s spring break already!

Getting close to supper time so will sign off for now.  Saturday night is my favorite night of the week for some reason.  Tomorrow I can sleep in and lounge til  noon if I choose.  No running to do… YaHoo!  Take  it easy out there!  Peace:)

Happy New Year!

by peggie on Jan.23, 2009, under Uncategorized

With a year like we had in 2008, you would be hard pressed not to be happy to see that one over! I’m very excited about the coming year. I do believe the tough times are far from over, but at least we should be more prepared for it.
I am still amazed by all the financial gurus out there who just didn’t see the near collapse of our financial system coming. Hello!!! People buying homes they could never afford? Everyone living off their credit cards? This 1970 high school graduate lunch lady saw that train wreck coming! What has happened to plain old good common sense? I’m not foolish enough to believe this fiasco will change our collective concious for long. Things will get better and the madness will creep back into our systems. That’s just the way it is.
My New Years Resolution is to Keep It Simple Stupid. I’m hoping this will stimulate my creativity in various ways. I have all kinds of ideas and will share the good ones. This could be fun! I heard someone say on my IPR program the other night….”if you don’t like something in your life change it. If you can’t change it, than change the way you feel about it.” How simple is that?!
Peace:)
